Who are or What are the Influences in Your Life?
Have you really stopped to think about the influences in your life?
· Who has had the biggest influence?
· Who created or influenced your way of thinking?
· What did you learn from someone, that totally changed your mind about something?
· Has there been a situation take place that has had enormous influence on you?
Positive Influence:
I thought about this and it really made me dig deep. I could think of one person straight away that had a great deal of influence, but then I had to really examine the whole question.
Who are or What has had the biggest influence in your life?
This question is a real thought provoking one. Did someone or something jump into your mind straight away or did you have to think about it for a while?
The one person I know changed my life in such profound ways was my father. A generous giving man.
When I think back at that now, makes me realise what an extraordinary amazing, patience man he really was.
He always had time to share with me his thoughts, we would talk for hours on the topics of theology, god, health, world events. He was always encouraging me to believe in myself, I could be and do anything I put my mind to.
Is there a person who has influenced your life in such a way?
Can you look back now and find fond memories of one such person?
Do you remember them sharing with you, things that still today feel familiar and safe?
It’s an awesome feeling when influence is positive and reassuring that it stays with you forever.
My brother was and still has a huge influence in my life, not that we always got on as youngsters, as lots of siblings don’t, but I always had and still have this unconditional love for him. He was and is always my hero. As we have aged our relationship has tamed and he has been a great support in my life.
There are always extraordinary people that shape our thinking, let's not forget them.
loving Influence:
My mum was my anchor, practical and loving, a real mum was my mum. She sacrificed many things for her children, always ready and available, never was anything too much trouble, she worked hard her whole life, so we didn't go without. My mother never over shared much of herself to me, preferring to keep many emotions to herself. She was strong. I admired her for her strength.
Isn’t it great to have fond memories of great people in your life. My family had enormous influence on me as I was growing up, I was blessed and feel very lucky to have had these wonderful people in my life.
Our parents do what they can with the skills they have, if you can look back and know you were loved then that is a wonderful thing. When we become parents, we may parent differently our own children, finding ways to improve on how we were brought up, but every generation is moving forward from the last.
Everyone we meet, speak to or listen to has influence on us, everyday we are making decisions, calculating problems, and our whole day is having an influence on us from one moment to the next.. As we age we start to observe our own opinions a little more, we start to value what is important to us, we start to realise what makes us happy, and we realise we have choices on what has influence on us and what doesn’t.
What about negative influences, do you recall any negative influences in your life?
This could be people, places, situations, it could be experiences. The reason why I ask is simply to help you realise the connection that influence has or has had on your life.
Have you heard of Neuro Linguistic programming, this term explains how language and words can have such long lasting influence over your life.
Neuro Linguistic programming explains how programmed we can become by what someone tells us over and over again, so much so that we believe it to be the truth, whether it is true or not. This is how people influence us, control us, manipulate us or on the other hand this is how we have achieved so much, by inspiration, motivation and encouragement, so who are or what are the influences in your Life?
Negative Influence:
Still today I am aware of the negative neuro linguistic programming I received by a disgustedly sick person when I was a small child.
I try not to think about it and try very hard to keep it a shadow programme. (shadow programme being just a memory with no emotional attachments) not always easy.
The impact these negative words of influence had on me as a child were huge, this program, I still struggle with today as an older woman.
As a child in my experience, these words were the size of mountains. I couldn't go over, under or around them.
As a child those words grew around me like the walls of a cage. they kept me isolated and sad.
The outcome of Influence is programming.
Those influences whether they be positive or negative have had an impact on your entire life.
If you have had positive influences that’s great, treasure them and never forget the motivation they gave you.
If you have had negative influence then the way I look at things is every day is a new day, and with every new day things can always get better, for we are always moving forward.
Who are you? What are the Influences in Your Life?
Be a very interesting task to sit down and write down the answers.
Who was a good influence? who was not and what impact did it leave on you as an adult?
· What is stopping you from moving forward?
· What is stopping you from living your dream?
· What were you told as a child?
· What was your environment like growing up?
All this has an impact on our behaviours as adults. All this plays a part to where we are now in our lives.
Give this some serious thought folks, you are not where you are now, simply by coincidence.
